About Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda to Switzerland and Permanent Mission to UNOG
While Rwanda is known as “the country of thousand Hills”. It is also nicknamed by many as “the Switzerland of Africa” due to many similar aspects between the two countries despite the long distance between them. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly with fruitful cooperation in various fields. Today, the two countries intend to broaden and intensify this relationship. Our Embassy is committed to developing friendly bilateral relations and pragmatic cooperation with the above mentioned countries, promoting culture and people-to-people exchange.
Geneva is an international City that hosts the second United Nations Headquarters and 36 other international institutions and organizations to which 179 states are represented with approximately 3,200 annual meetings involving 207,000 delegates from around the world.
Our Permanent Mission therefore is responsible for representing Rwanda in these meetings, which involve a wide range of issues including among other things Humanitarian Affairs, Human Rights, Trade and Development, Global Health Security and International Labour.
Our objective is not only to advance Rwanda’s interests, but also to help “shape global norms”, especially given Rwanda’s role as a “bridge builder” and active member of the international community in addressing global issues of common interest and concern.
