The role of the consulate is defined in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of April 24, 1963.

It is responsible in particular for:

– the census and registration of Algerians residing in its constituency.
– Issuing travel, identity and civil status documents and ensuring notarial functions.
– Consular protection in the event of arrest, imprisonment, serious accident or illness; it can intervene in cases of repatriation.
– The organization of elections.
– It issues entry visas to Algeria to foreigners.

In addition to his missions of an administrative nature and the protection of Algerian nationals, the head of the consular post works to develop economic, commercial, cultural and scientific relations between Algeria and the local authorities and institutions within his district.

It encourages, through prospecting and promotion, the establishment of partnership links between Algerian economic operators and those of the State of residence.

It contributes to the influence of Algerian culture, in particular by organizing or participating in events whose themes reflect aspects of the national culture.
