Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool (GAIP) is a subsidiary business unit under the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA). The aim of GAIP is to protect farmers and other players in Ghana’s agricultural industry from the negative economic effects of climate change and perils associated with agriculture/agribusiness. As a solution, GAIP develops a sustainable portfolio of innovative insurance products that mitigate the financial risks associated with this risks.
The governance structure of the pool is administered through a steering committee headed by the Commissioner of Insurance of the National Insurance Commission as the Chairperson. Other members include Directors from Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ministry of Finance, President of GIA, Farmer Representatives and their Development Partners.
The technical and operational management of the pool is carried out by the Technical Management Unit (TMU) headed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and deputized by the General Manager.
The TMU currently operates under three departments, namely Agro-meteorology/Research, Marketing and Underwriting. Our operation extends the whole of Ghana, especially for the commercial insurance products.
Our branch offices can be located in Northern (Tamale), Upper East (Bolgatanga) and Upper West (Wa).
It is the hope of the TMU that additional branch networks would be opened in the middle belts of the country, in due course. Ghana Agricultural Insurance Pool is currently the only mandated insurance company in Ghana to underwrite agro-related insurance business by the National Insurance Commission, Ghana.
