Tunisia is working, in terms of foreign policy, to remedy the inequalities that characterize international relations, by attaching major importance to the United Nations, as a framework conducive to joint action.
Since joining the United Nations following its independence, Tunisia has never ceased to consolidate its contribution to the many works of the United Nations and its international actions.
Taking part in the debates taking place within the UN, Tunisia recently took part in the 65th session of the General Assembly, which addressed issues to which the Organization has focused its attention in recent years. This concerns, in particular, the reform of the UN system with a view to making it more capable of evolving at the rate of current developments and challenges.
During its election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, for the 3rd time since its independence, Tunisia raised the question of the reform of the Council.
In particular, it highlighted the need to broaden its membership, so as to comply with the principle of equitable geographical distribution and to guarantee the representation of the interests of developing countries.
