GROCTEU was registered and incorporated on 22nd November 2001 as the apex body for four mainstream yam exporters/farmers associations namely; Ghana Yam Producers & Exporters Assoc (GYPEA), Ghana Assorted Foodstuffs Exporters Association (GAFEA), Konkomba Yam Farmers & Exporters of Ghana (KYFEAG) and Sea Freight Yam Exporters of Ghana (SFYEG).

At both the GROCTEU and Association Executive Council levels, meetings are held at least once a month which are well attended.

GROCTEU has established direct links with FBOs in twenty-four major yam growing districts to support farmers produce quality yams that meet buyer requirements. FBO member farmers have in the last few years expanded their production, utilizing modern planting materials development (including yam mini setts) to produce standard yams for the local retail stores (Supermarkets) and for exports.
