About Somali American Community Center of Colorado
Established in 1999, the Somali American Community Center of Colorado (SACCC) provides education, support, advocacy, and assistance to youth, students, and families from refugee and immigrant populations. The Somali Community Center-Co provides education, community outreach, referrals, and linkages to program participants and their families.
The Somali American Community Center of Colorado is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organization. The staff and the board of directors are multilingual educators, business professionals and volunteers with years of experience responding to the needs of refugees and immigrants.
Mission Statement
The mission of Somali American Community Center of Colorado is support adult, teen and child refugees and immigrants and families in successfully navigating America’s social service and healthcare systems. Somali American Community Center of Colorado provides support to middle and high school students and their families, as well as services that lower the risk of preventable health issues, drug and alcohol use and gang involvement.
Objectives
To increase community awareness pertaining to the differences of American culture and the Somali culture and promote a smooth transition into American culture.
To promote the growth of the Community Center through networking with similar organizations, fundraising functions, and utilizing volunteers (especially Somali refugee volunteers) to reach out to the community as a whole.
To promote self-sufficiency through workshops, and educational seminars including but not limited to: Health Awareness, Community Referrals, English as a Second Language workshops, programs specifically geared towards refugee children, and assistance with Citizenship Training.
Organizational History & Profile
Since its inception in 1999, Somali American Community Center of Colorado has served over 10,000 families. Primary services include community outreach and education about challenges faced by immigrants and refugees, as well as advocacy, referrals, and linkages to support the health and wellness, individual and family empowerment, support of women, men, and youth in the areas of housing, health education, and food justice. Somali American Community Center of Colorado also offers translation and interpreter services and after-school programs that provide safe space for youth to gather. A group of dedicated volunteers and community leaders that provide administration and program support to SACCC.
