Description
The Public Utility Workers’ Union of GTUC was one of the early unions to be formed in the Gold Coast.
PUWU draws its membership from both the Private and Public Sector. On formation the Union had a membership of 1700 workers in all. It reached a peak of 15,350 in the late 1980s but, currently stands at 8,850, of this membership 20% are female.
Though a small Union, its members and branches are located in all the administrative districts of the country, and are serviced by 18 full time staff who carry out its day to day administrative task.
